UnderMine 2’s fourth major update is here! Welcome peasants to 0.7.0 Duskfall!

This is an enormous update. Possibly the biggest in the history of UnderMine! 0.7.0 Duskfall adds the titular zone: Duskfall, a new fearsome boss Bul & Gogi, a new landmark Thimble Thicket, a new challenge mode Grim Crucible, and many, many more features and changes. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Duskfall and thimble thicket

Duskfall is a new starter area that occupies the first floor of the Undermine, alongside the Goldmine. In fact, Duskfall is now THE starter area for new players just beginning the game. The goblins of the area have barricade the entrance to the Goldmine. Before Camilla can begin rebuilding her Hub you must confront the goblins and fine a way into the Goldmine. Unfortunately, Gogi, the goblin chieftain and his mount Bul stand in your way. More on them later.

Within Duskfall resides the Thimble Thicket, a market run by strange creatures known as Wizardlings. These strange creatures have an obsession with enlargement and delargement and their wares reflect that. New items, along with some older items are now available for purchase with iron from the Thimble Thicket. You’ll find many things that scale you in multiple kinds of ways.

Duskfall is also full of new enemies. Goblin Tinkerers and Armorsmiths roam the grounds, producing and armoring goblin contraptions that are hostile to outsiders. Strange chefs look to ignite or cleave you with their cooking tools. Some basic critters also infest the woods such as snakes. Discover optimal strategies for how to dispatch these enemies, or charm them to your team and discover how they can serve you!

GRIM CRUCIBLE

The Grim Crucible is a challenge mode that opens up after you complete your first full run of the Undermine. In Terminus you will meet Shrubble, a temporary NPC (We still have some longer term plans for Terminus.) Shrubble will offer you the Grim Emblem which unlocks a trap door in Camilla’s office. This trap door takes you down stairs to the Grim Crucible, and will also connect to the rest of the Rabbit Hole once its other secret entrance is found.

A Familiar Challenge

Grim Crucible may feel familiar to existing fans of UnderMine. It offers a very similar challenge to the Summoning Stones of the first game. When you initially find the Grim Crucible you can increase the Hex Formidable by 10 levels, each increasing enemy health and damage by 5%. When you complete a run with a Grim Level, you will be paid out that much Grim at the end of the run. This Grim (a new currency) can unlock and purchase additional challenges.

UnderMine’s Summoning Stones only increased enemy health and damage, but the Grim Crucible expands that challenge. Some of the hexes include: Diminished, which decreases your initial health, Star Crossed, which reduces your luck, and Pick, which limits how many relics you may carry.

Please don’t mind some temporary icons :)

Familiars begin with one unlocked ability. In Noxx’s case, he can help you raise skeleton followers by inspecting the inanimate skeletons laying around the Undermine. A familiar’s other abilities have unlock conditions that need to be met throughout the run. Some of these can be repeated over and over again. For example, Noxx’s II can be accomplished more than once, ramping your poison duration each time you poison 35 enemies.

Each familiar has a fourth ability that is unlocked in a special way. These abilities are reserved for when you discover the Egghanim’s Scepter, a rare relic.

Canary

Accelerates your gold gain, helps pick up loose nuggets, and can help you spend that money in the shop.

Noctua, Minerva’s Owl

Expands your mana pool, improves mana gain, and boosts your intelligence to spend that mana with gusto.

Clockwork

Discovers more bombs and iron, boosts physical damage, and gives immunity to you and your allies from friendly bomb blasts.

Regin, Siegfried’s Companion

Summons Weapons of Light, improves your healing, and illuminates you dealing constant fire damage to nearby enemies.

Noxx

Raises skeletons, improves your poison duration and damage, and raises even better, poisonier skeletons??

Thresh

Attacks with a dark blade, deals bonus dark damage, and improves your dark damage with curses. Very edgy.

Crackle

Gifts you wards, overcharges those wards for unique effects, and slows enemies in proximity to the wards to keep them safe.

???

There are some clues on this page to who this could be, or maybe you’ve already guessed ;)

New SHOPS

Two new shops have opened in the Undermine, each with a different inventory.

Bomb Bros.

Bishop and Rook have opened a shop (without their mother’s permission.) Discover all things BOOM! at Bomb Bros. Bomb types, relics, and even some regular old bombs. Whatever you need for blasting.

Portimer’s Curiosities

Portimer runs a shop of a different type. He will offer you two different relics, but the cost of each is also two relics. Sometimes it’s better to focus your build with some relics that aren’t doing much for you.

A holistic change to holes

Holes have always been a bit contentious in UnderMine. We made a lot of improvements to them in UnderMine 2, but they can still be a source of frustration.

We made the bold decision to stop characters from automatically moving over ledges and falling into holes. Now, when you push up against the ledge your character will be stopped.

This makes navigating the Undermine a bit less stressful, and really helps in those rooms with tight walkways.

If you enjoy living on the dangerous side, you can always revert back to the old settings with the Classic Holes option in the Gameply tab of the Options Menu.

New ACHIEVEMENTS

Graduation Day

Discovered Baggledag's betrayal and convinced Nicoise to join you.

Brave the Heat

Discovered Clockwork's egg.

Maximum Power

Unlocked all of a familiar's abilities.

Brave the Storm

Discovered Crackle's egg.

Rabbit hole expansion

You can now buy a Sharpshooter Trophy in Black Rabbit’s Shooting Gallery. This trophy unlocks a version of the game for the Rabbit Hole. Now you can practice your game and aim for that Sharpshooter achievement. Expect more of Black Rabbit’s games in the Undermine and in the Rabbit Hole in the future.

Load screen tips

Just some friendly reminders of lesser known mechanics. We know you don’t need them, but someone else probably does.

And much more…

Like in all updates, we’ve added new items, secrets, and made quality of life improvements in addition to bug fixes. One focus in this update was the gold economy. Potions, Basic Items, and Food have all had their gold costs reduced so that you can take advantage of these items more. We’ve also lowered the cost of Transmuting items. This is key as the item pool expands. We understand that not all items are going to suit your build. That’s part of the game. But, we want to give you the tools to manipulate it.

We’re going to continue working on this area especially. Expect some changes to Attunement and other similar mechanics in future updates.

The NEXT UPDATE

We’re currently debating our next major update. The leading candidate is a new zone, boss, and player character. Of course, we still haven’t reintroduced legendary relics and the daemons. If you have an opinion on what we should tackle next, please let us know.
