UnderMine 2’s fourth major update is here! Welcome peasants to 0.7.0 Duskfall!

Duskfall is an enormous update. Possibly the biggest in the history of UnderMine! 0.7.0 Duskfall adds the titular zone: Duskfall, a new fearsome boss Bul & Gogi, a new landmark Thimble Thicket, a new challenge mode Grim Crucible, and many, many more features and changes. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Duskfall and thimble thicket

Duskfall is a new starter area that occupies the first floor of the Undermine, alongside the Goldmine. In fact, Duskfall is now THE starter area for new players just beginning the game. The goblins of the area have barricaded the entrance to the Goldmine. Before you and Camilla can begin rebuilding her Hub you must confront the goblins and find a way into the Goldmine. Unfortunately, Gogi, the goblin chieftain and his mount Bul stand in your way. More on them later.

Within Duskfall resides the Thimble Thicket, a market run by strange creatures known as Wizardlings. These creatures are obsessed with enlargement and delargement. Their wares reflect that obsession. New items, along with some older ones, are now available for purchase with iron from the Thimble Thicket. You’ll find many things that scale you in multiple kinds of ways.

Duskfall is also full of new enemies. Goblin Tinkerers, Armorsmiths, and Clearcutters roam the grounds. Strange chefs look to ignite or cleave you with their cooking tools. Some basic critters also infest the woods such as snakes. Discover optimal strategies for how to dispatch these enemies, or charm them to your team and discover how they can serve you!

NEW Enemies

Mycrocap

A cute but deadly foe. Straying too close causes the Mycrocap to emit spores that shrink anyone caught in the cloud.

Macrocap

The Macrocap also releases spores when threatened, but these spores enlarge those caught in the cloud. Maybe not a bad thing?

Chef

These strange chefs live with the goblins. They empty the contents of their pot at any aggressor, spreading oil everywhere. Worse yet, they’ll ignite it just to see the world burn.

Gyrocopter

These buzzing little contraptions fly in erratic patterns and fire projectiles in short range, most of the time. Other times they bump off the wall in confusion. Goblin tech is unreliable.

Goblin Tinkerer

Inventive creatures that produce gyrocopters in large quantities. They may leave you with a few scraps of iron when defeated.

Goblin Amorsmith

These smiths armor up their allies or replenish spent armor. Make sure to prioritize them, or prepare to chew through very durable enemies.

Snake

A basic critter that mostly minds its own business, but will lunge out if you draw too near.

Goblin Clearcutter

Behold! The pinnacle of goblin engineering. A buzz saw thingy and a proper choppa.

Bul & Gogi

The goldmine has been barricaded off by the goblins and their chieftain, Gogi. You must defeat Gogi, and his mount the mighty toad Bul in combat to once again open access to the goldmine. Bul attacks with mighty stomps and tongue sweeps, while Gogi releases deadly spear attacks from the safety of Bul’s shoulders.

GRIM CRUCIBLE

The Grim Crucible is a challenge mode that opens up after completing your first full run of the Undermine. In Terminus you meet Shrubble, a temporary NPC (We still have some longer term plans for Terminus.) Shrubble offers you the Grim Emblem which unlocks a trap door in Camilla’s office. This trap door takes you downstairs to the Grim Crucible, and will also connect to the rest of the Rabbit Hole once the other secret entrance is found.

A Familiar Challenge

The Grim Crucible will feel familiar to existing fans of UnderMine. It offers a very similar challenge to the Summoning Stones of the first game. The Grim Crucible is a set of Hexes that modifiy the stats of the player and enemies to increase the challenge of the game. Increasing the level of these Hexes will increase your Grim Level. When you complete a run with a Grim Level, you are rewarded with that much Grim (a new currency) that unlocks and levels additional Hexes.

UnderMine’s Summoning Stones only increased enemy health and damage, but the Grim Crucible expands that challenge. Some of the hexes include: Diminished, which decreases your initial health, Star Crossed, which reduces your luck, and Picky, which limits how many relics you may carry.

Please don’t mind some temporary icons :)

nEW iTEMS (SOME OF THEM) & REWORKS

We’ve added many new items, including some exclusive the Thimble Thicket. Here is a sample of those items along with some reworks to existing items. This is not a comprehensive list by any means. Make sure to read the update notes to see all the new items and changes.

Embiggener

This handy arcana embiggens (makes larger if you’re unfamiliar with the lingo) many things including your enemies, so be careful. Larger things have all kinds of benefits. Larger food, for example, will heal you for more.

Debiggener

Wizardlings love debiggening things as much as they enjoy embiggening them. This device will shrink your enemies along with other objects. Rocks when shrunk can be destroyed with normal attacks.

Demolitionist Duffel

This relic expands your bomb inventory and grants you a bomb on pickup to start filling it up. Very handy for relics that care about how many bombs you have.

Backpack

A simple relics that expands your key inventory and grants you one on pickup. Pairs nicely with a Keyblade.

Mushroom

An old favorite returns, but with expanded functionality. The Mushroom consumes enemies for their health, but also their strength and dexterity if they happen to be embiggened or debiggened.

Geometric Fetish

Upon pickup, select a blessing. Geometric Fetish ascends that blessing when ever you pray at an altar.

Aura Farmer

Enriches gold nodes, making the more lucrative when you mine them.

Shiva’s Guard

No longer an arcana, Shiva’s Guard now acts very similar to Gilded Lion. It will transform armor shards into frozen armor shards. When damaged, frozen shards create ice blasts, chilling and damaging nearby enemies.

Smoldering Coal

Now ignites enemies when you Pathfind and multiplies your fire damage by the number of ignited enemies in the room.

Meteor Wand

Meteors from the Meteor Wand now deal more damage, drop faster, and spawn a little iron when they are destroyed. This improvement extends to the Meatier Wand and Ragnarok as well.

New ACHIEVEMENTS

Frog Stomped

Defeated Bul & Gogi

Yearn for the Mine!

Entered the Goldmine

Brave the Light

Discovered Regin's egg

Brave the Darkness

Discovered Thresh's egg

Grim and Bear It

Completed a run with a Grim level of 30 or more

Portals?

Rare secret encounters each contain a portal to one of the Undermine’s landmarks such as the Abandoned Foundry, Royal Testing Apparatus, the Tomevault, and Thimble Thicket. There may even be some ways to create these portals yourself.

Changes to Fuse and Attunement

Fuse is now free. It still requires two relics, but since your sacrificing two relics for one, we figured you’re already paying a cost. No need for a second. Attunement is also more lenient. You can now remove a single level from an existing blessing, rather than sacrificing the whole thing in order to ascend another.

And much more…

As always there are many more additions and changes in this update along with balance changes and bug fixes. Make sure to read the full notes when Duskfall releases on May 1st.
